One of the things I love most about these activities is their flexibility. Sometimes our kids spread out around the house and quietly work on their own projects during independent play. Other times they gather around the table, each creating something different while enjoying each other's company. If I had to choose one activity from this list, Foil Fun would probably be my top recommendation. All three of our kids have enjoyed it at different ages, making it one of the few creative activities that has truly grown with our family. My oldest son learned about when he was in kindergarten, but my other two kiddos started enjoying it much earlier.
The concept is simple: kids use colorful foil sheets to decorate pre-printed adhesive picture boards. There's no glue, no paint, and almost no mess, making it a perfect screen-free activity for quiet time or independent play.
We've owned both the traditional Foil Fun kits and the newer spiral-bound books, and there are things I like about each. The traditional kits include colorful background scenes that you stick your finished foil stickers onto, giving kids the chance to arrange and decorate an entire picture however they'd like. Color by Sticker books have been another favorite in our house, especially as our kids have gotten older. We also LOVE taking these in the car on long trips! Instead of coloring with crayons or markers, kids complete each picture by matching numbered stickers to the correct spaces. It's a fun mix of art and puzzle-solving that keeps them focused from start to finish.
